  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder divided
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika divided
  • 2 teaspoons paprika divided
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning divided
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning divided
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
  • 1 lemon juiced divided
  • 6 tablespoons butter divided
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 385 degrees F 196 degrees C.
  2. Cut 6 large 2 inch deep slits into the cabbage starting from the core, about a quarter way down, then brush the cabbage with olive oil.
  3. Mix 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning and chicken bouillon then rub all over the cabbage. Pour half the lemon juice evenly on top and spread the spices completely.
  4. Place 3 tablespoons of butter in the cabbage center and wrap tightly with two layers of foil, then set on a baking tray.
  5. Bake the cabbage for 1 hour.
  6. While baking, melt the remaining butter and stir in the remaining 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning plus the rest of the lemon juice.
  7. When the hour is up, take the cabbage out and drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture over it. Wrap the cabbage back up in the same foil.
  8. Bake again for another hour.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before seasoning with salt and pepper. Serve with the leftover butter mix for dipping if you like.

Notes

  • For crisp tops, broil 2–3 minutes at the end
