This easy casserole recipe combines seasoned ground beef with tender potatoes and creamy mushroom soup for a comforting beef dinner. Perfect for busy weeknights, it’s a classic beef casserole with cheesy layers that everyone will love.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 can 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon paprika optional for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.
  3. Cook ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet until browned and onions are soft, about 5-7 minutes then drain grease.
  4. Season beef mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Layer half the potatoes in the dish then half the beef mixture repeat layers.
  6. Mix cream of mushroom soup with milk and pour over casserole.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top and drizzle melted butter.
  8. Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes then remove foil and bake 15 minutes until cheese is golden.
  9. Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving and sprinkle paprika if desired.

Notes

  • For crisp tops, broil 2–3 minutes at the end
