  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced about 1/8-inch thick
  • 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup 1 can
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika optional for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin, even rounds about 1/8-inch thick.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until beef is browned and onions are soft.
  5. Drain excess grease and season beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Layer half the potatoes in the dish then half the beef mixture, repeat layers.
  7. Mix cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth and pour over casserole.
  8. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and drizzle melted butter.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and potatoes tender.
  11. Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving and optionally sprinkle paprika.

  • Slice potatoes evenly using a mandoline for uniform cooking
  • Cream of chicken or celery can substitute for mushroom soup
  • For extra creaminess add 1/4 cup sour cream to the soup mixture
