  • 1 cup basmati rice soaked for 1530 minutes
  • 3 tablespoons oil of choice
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 green cardamom pods
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ cinnamon stick
  • ½ onion diced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen green peas
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse and drain the basmati rice after soaking it in cold water for 15 to 30 minutes.
  2. Turn on the sauté function and warm the oil for about a minute before adding the cumin seeds.
  3. Once the cumin seeds start to brown, mix in the cardamom pods, cloves, bay leaf, and cinnamon stick, stirring briefly.
  4. Add the chopped onion and cook it until it turns golden brown, which should take 6 to 7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the rice, peas, water, and salt, combining everything evenly.
  6. Seal the Instant Pot lid, set the valve to pressure, and cook on high pressure for 6 minutes.
  7. Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes, then carefully open the valve to release any remaining pressure.
  8. Use a fork to gently fluff the rice and serve immediately.
