1 pound ground beef
1 small onion diced
1 teaspoon minced garlic
15 ounce can crushed tomatoes
8 ounce can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup elbow macaroni pasta cooked measured before cooking
grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and cook ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic until beef is browned and crumbled. Drain off any extra fat.
Add crushed tomatoes with their juices and tomato sauce to the beef mixture and stir to combine.
Season the sauce with sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper then bring it all to a boil.
Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes to blend flavors.
Stir in the cooked elbow macaroni and allow everything to simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve the goulash topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
Add in additional veggies your family enjoys! Green peppers, diced tomatoes or mushrooms would all be great additions
Shredded cheddar cheese can also be added
A tad of sugar is added to cut the acidity from the tomatoes
