This one pan cheesy beef shells recipe is a delicious and easy dinner perfect for a family weeknight. It combines tender pasta and savory ground beef in a cheesy sauce for a comforting one pot pasta meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy or whipping cream
  • 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups uncooked medium shells
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese cubed
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by cooking the ground beef and chopped onion in a large pot over medium high heat until the meat is fully browned, breaking it apart as it cooks and removing any excess fat.
  2. Mix in the tomato paste, garlic powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning thoroughly.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, cream, and Worcestershire sauce, then bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  4. Add the uncooked pasta to the pot, lower the heat to maintain a gentle simmer, and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most liquid has evaporated, about 12 to 13 minutes.
  5. Stir in the cubed Velveeta cheese until it melts completely, then season with salt and pepper. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving for the best texture.

Notes

  • Serves 4-6 depending on the portion size
  • You can use grated cheddar instead of Velveeta if you prefer
  • If the liquid evaporates too quickly before the pasta is done, add more liquid—about 1/2 cup at a time—to prevent sticking or burning
