This sourdough sandwich bread recipe yields soft and fluffy loaves perfect for sandwiches or toast. Easy to make with simple ingredients and a delicious tangy flavor.

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup (65 grams) sourdough starter discard or fed 12-24 hours prior
  • 1⅓ cups (300 grams) warm water filtered 95º to 100º F
  • ¼ cup (56 grams) granulated sugar
  • 4 cups (500 grams) bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tablespoons (20 grams) extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons (9 grams) salt

Instructions

  1. Mix sourdough starter and warm water until combined.
  2. Add sugar and stir.
  3. Gradually add flour and olive oil, mix until dough forms.
  4. Knead dough for 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise for 4-6 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Shape dough into a loaf and place in greased pan.
  7. Let rise again for 1-2 hours.
  8. Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC) and bake loaf for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool before slicing.

  • Use a kitchen scale for best flour measurement accuracy
