Enjoy a delicious Air Fryer Spatchcock Chicken Thanksgiving recipe that’s perfect for an easy dinner or a family dinner. This spatchcock chicken air fryer method yields crispy skin and tender meat, ideal as a Thanksgiving chicken recipe or weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4.55 pound whole chicken Ensure the giblets have been removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Use enough to completely cover the chicken
  • ½ tablespoon Creole Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 teaspoon ground rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Remove the giblets from the chicken and pat it dry to help the seasonings stick.
  2. Lay the chicken breast side down and cut along both sides of the backbone to remove it completely.
  3. Flip the chicken and press down firmly to flatten the breast and adjust the drumsticks and wings for even cooking.
  4. Rub the chicken evenly with olive oil and then coat it with the Creole seasoning, smoked paprika, thyme, rosemary, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Air fry the chicken at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes, checking for an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees in the thickest parts.
  6. Let the chicken rest in the air fryer basket for 15 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

  • Use enough spices to ensure the chicken is fully coated
  • Adjust and add more if necessary
  • The best way to flatten the breast bone is to snip the cartilage near the breast after removing the backbone
  • You do not need to flip the chicken during cooking
  • It’s best to cook the chicken until well above 165 degrees to ensure even doneness
  • Rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing to retain moisture
