Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken tenders
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cups cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder or paprika or salt
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon EACH garlic powder or onion powder or smoked paprika or salt or pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine buttermilk, egg, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper in a large bowl, then add chicken tenders and stir to coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or preferably overnight.
  2. Mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt in a shallow dish. Dredge the marinated chicken pieces in this mixture, pressing gently to cover all sides.
  3. Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil in a heavy skillet to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Fry the chicken tenders in batches without crowding, cooking each for 5 to 7 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  4. Whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and all seasonings in a bowl, then chill until serving.
  5. Serve hot chicken tenders immediately with the prepared Cane sauce and your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • While the tenders are crispest fresh from frying, leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days
  • Reheat using a pan, oven, or air fryer to maintain crispiness
  • Avoid microwaving to prevent soggy coating
