This Italian Herbs and Cheese Bread is a flavorful, aromatic loaf perfect for any occasion. Its combination of herbs and cheeses provides a delicious savory taste with a soft, tender crumb.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1¾ cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herbs like basil oregano thyme and rosemary
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water sugar and yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour salt herbs mozzarella and Parmesan to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf.
  6. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and cover. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the bread for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  9. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush the top of the loaf with olive oil before baking
  • Serve warm with butter or your favorite dips
