Air Fryer Karaage Chicken is a crispy karaage recipe perfect for an easy dinner or weeknight dinner. This Japanese fried chicken is juicy and packed with soy ginger flavor, ideal for a family dinner.

  • 600g boneless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2 clove garlic crushed
  • 1 tsp crushed ginger
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ¼ cup cornflour
  • Japanese kewpie mayo
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken thighs into small bite-sized chunks.
  2. Combine soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a bowl and mix well, then coat chicken pieces in the marinade and leave for 20 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle cornflour over the marinated chicken and toss until coated evenly.
  4. Place chicken pieces in the air fryer basket and lightly spray with cooking oil.
  5. Cook at 200°C for 15 minutes until golden and fully cooked.
  6. Serve alongside Japanese mayo and lemon wedges for dipping.

Notes

  • Swap the chicken thighs for chicken breast if you prefer cooking time may vary
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, place the chicken on a lined baking tray and cook at 220°C fan bake for 15–20 minutes until golden and cooked through
  • Serve in a rice bowl with sushi rice edamame beans and salad for a complete meal
